I know I’m supposed to dislike Ethan because he’s cockblocking Klaine but my goodness he is a good boyfriend to Kurt.

But that’s just the thing, isn’t it? You’re *not* supposed to dislike Ethan. You *may* be supposed to root for Kurt & Blaine to end up together in LN, but even that is not a must. Ethan is not a horrible, abusive boyfriend, he’s not a cheater, he’s not even particularly boring. He cares about Kurt. And the sex sounds kinda amazing, too. So, really, staying with Ethan wouldn’t be the worst thing ever for Kurt. I think I’d be lucky to have a boyfriend like Ethan. 

And then there is Blaine and we’re back to that whole soul mates thing and, holy shit, if KurtandBlaine don’t own my heart, I don’t know who does. It breaks my heart to see Ethan almost begging for Kurt to come join him for dinner in chapter 16, instead of texting with what Ethan thinks is Blaine. But still, I am utterly convinced that, ultimately, Kurt and Blaine will have their happy ending in LN. Because, while Kurt and Ethan’s relationship is sweet, I cannot wait for the wave of emotions that will hit me when my OTP will also end up together in *this* verse. This is why I love future AUs so fucking much; they show that, no matter what, KurtandBlaine *will* eventually have their happy ending because it’s already in them, that life-changing, soul mate searching default set up. Against all odds.

And now I’ll stop rambling ;) 

This is everything that my dear Abby and I have been texting each other for weeks. Ethan is pretty much the perfect boyfriend. No he doesn’t get excited about the Empire State Building lighting up for Christmas or other classic New York City things. But that’s because he is a born and raised New Yorker. See, since Blaine and Kurt never met while Kurt was in Lima… I have always kind of seen Ethan as the one who finally gave Kurt that last push of confidence. 

At the end of it I was tired of fighting and trying to prove everyone just how strong I was.

That’s how Kurt described his life before Ethan. 

He’s been my rock.

That’s how Kurt describes Ethan.

So in a way, in the LN alternate universe… Ethan was Kurt’s Blaine. Not his soulmate!Blaine, but his lifesaver!Blaine. Does that even make sense? I don’t even know. But before Blaine and Kurt were Klaine, Blaine was a rock. “I look up to you,” Kurt says. And since there was no Blaine in Lima, Ethan filled that void.

And now, Ethan and Kurt have been together well over a year. Ethan knows his takeout order and his coffee order and knows if Kurt says to pick him up 6:30, it really means 6:45, maybe 7, because he won’t be ready on time. Ethan’s not a big fan of playing New York tourist, but he does it every so often, just to watch Kurt’s eyes light up when he looks at the billboards in Times Square or takes in the night skyline from the observation deck at the Empire State building.

He’s a good boyfriend. A great boyfriend even. 

Do you ever think that not knowing what you want is harder than wanting something you can’t have?

The problem is Kurt’s happy. Things are good with Ethan, would continue to be good with Ethan. But things could (and would ultimately because, hello, soulmates!) be great with Blaine. But is it worth the risk?
